From Foundation to 3 Stories in Two Days
Recently, Guerdon Modular Buildings crane set a three story apartment building in partnership with Northwest Ventures Group. The building, known as Dekum 13, is located in Portland, OR and was developed in half the normal time for a project of its magnitude – cutting a total of five months off the development timeline. Dekum 13 modules were built at Guerdon headquarters in Boise and then transferred to Portland, where the crane installation portion of construction lasted a mere two days.
Modular construction technology for multi-family housing is in high demand due to to its time saving benefits. Because of this, modular is a great fit for the the city of Portland, which is facing record housing demand. But speed is not the only benefit for the Portland market. As Jon Bell of the Portland Business Journal said:
In addition to saving time on construction… the smaller size of the units — about 375 to 475 square feet each — along with the modular approach helps keep the apartments more affordable. (The developer) said the modular approach could help alleviate some of the affordable housing demand in Portland.
Quick turn construction of affordable housing has benefits not only for developers but also for the community the building is located in, as Dekum 13 illustrates.
